Today's Topic: Paso Doble, part II.
I presented a very simplistic interpretation of Espana Cani (Spanish Gypsy) song in the previous Tid-bits. I had several comments and there has been a long discussion on phrasing and highlights etc but then it gets so
complicated that I give up. So, for now, I will stick to 8 beat phrasing and
divide the song in 3 sections. At least, I can tell where the Highlight is
coming but no doubt I agree that "musical interpretation" sometimes gets messed up because really there are changes and each phrase is not strictly 4 bars.
Assuming that there are 11 phrases in the first section of music, I suggested
the following Bronze Level choreography in my previous tid-bits.
8 beats : Ready, Sur Place and connect. Start facing wall
8 beats: Twist Turn (Walter Laird),
8 8 beats: Sixteen, Now you end up facing Center.
4 beats: Deplacement with Attack, end backing LOD.
4 beats: Basic curving left, end facingWall.
8 beats: Chasses to Left with Appel on 1, end PP.
8 beats: Huit.
8 beats: Separation
8 8 beats: Separation with Fallaway ending
Now you are entering the last phrase, i.e. the 11th phrase, After and Appel,
go to PP and do your own thing. Maybe an inside turn and Dip (Oversway) the
lady on the 7th beat and this is the first "Highlight".
It works for me so try it and please give me your comments. Next week some
