The German Open Championships show a new participation record. While in the last years always barely 2000 couples participated in the world-wide biggest DanceSport competition at Mannheim, up to now 2040 competing couples from 40 nations of all five continents made their definite entries. And because there are still more than three weeks time till the 16th GOC from 26th till 31st of August, the organisers of the Mannheim Congress and Touristic Ltd. Still expect a further increase. Opposite to other well-known open competitions the trend of less participation numbers does not exist at Mannheim!
For the first time German couples as well broke through the sound barrier of 1000 couples. Runners up are the Russian couples with 903 single starts followed by Italy with 208 and the Ukraine with 213. The Chinese couples participate for the first time with 116 entries.
The highest numbers are with the Latin Amateurs (510 couples) just ahead of the Standard Amateurs with 494 couples. A significant raise is with the Seniors. Last year 362 couples participated (251 Sen. I and 111 Sen. II). This year there will participate more than 400 couples. 262 Sen. I and 140 en II already made their entries. Youth couples (16 till 18 years) as well are on a record scale with 276 Latin, 207 Standard and 153 1o-dance participants. With the Juniors II (14 to 15 years)198 will dance Latin, 161 Standard and 149 10-dances. With the Juniors I (12 to 13 years) we will see 147 Latin, 125 Standard and 115 10-dancers. With the Juveniles - up to 11 years - the numbers are 68 Latin, 55 Standard and 51 10-dancers.
